Template:Character Glimmer was the female tribute from District 1 in the 74th Hunger Games.

The Hunger GamesEdit

Glimmer's interview with Caesar went very well, as she did a great job and looked the part. Katniss said that she was sexy and would probably get many sponsors.

Glimmer's tribute token was the only one of the 74th Hunger Games to be confiscated. The gemstone of the ring she brought, when twisted, revealed a poisoned spike. Because nobody could prove she had knowledge of the weapon, she was not penalized.

Glimmer was not to be underestimated. Being one of the Career Tributes, she had a good chance of survival and was ready to fight, and she was probably one of the older tributes though her exact age is unknown. At the Cornucopia, she snagged a beautiful bow and a quiver of arrows that Katniss wanted and helped pick off the remaining fighters not part of the Careers' Alliance. The Careers discover Peeta and allowed him in the pack so they could get to Katniss. After the fire storm, Glimmer and the other Career members were not as fast as before. Later, Glimmer along with the Career pack, found Katniss and chased her up a tree. When Cato decided to go up the tree Katniss was trapped in, Glimmer offered him her bow and arrows, but he refused as he could do better with his sword. When Cato fell out of the tree, Glimmer decided to try, but the branches couldn't support her after Cato went up first. It was obvious that she wasn't familiar with the bow and arrows, as she didn't hold the arrows straight and had a hard time nocking the arrow to the bowstring. When she misses, Katniss teases her by grabbing the arrow and swinging it around to embarrass her for her lack of knowledge.

Glimmer was killed by tracker jackers that Katniss, who was originally informed of the nest by Rue, sent down on the Career Tributes by cutting off the branch that held it. Glimmer, the girl from District 4, Clove, Marvel, Cato, and Peeta were camping at the bottom of the tree where Katniss was hiding. Rue pointed out a tracker jacker nest to Katniss that was sedated from the smoke of a recently started fire; Katniss then proceeded to saw the nest off of the branch, which fell onto the group. Shocked at the sudden attack, everyone but Glimmer and the girl from District 4 escaped to the lake. While the District 4 girl ran out of sight and soon died from her stings, Glimmer did not get far and collapsed to the ground screaming hysterically in pain and from the horrific hallucinations caused by the tracker jacker venom. Glimmer soon stopped screaming and lay on the ground, twitching, as the vemon seared through her system. Unfortunately for Glimmer, her death was not quick, and for several minutes after collapsing, her heart kept beating, and she fell into a coma. When Katniss returns for the bow and arrows, she notes that she could not recognize the once beautiful girl, as the vemon had bloated her body grotesquely, and her plum sized stings were oozing green pus and bursting. It is also said that when she touched one of the pimple-like wounds, it turned to dust in her hand. However, there is a chance that this did not happen as Katniss herself had recieved multiple stings and thus would be hallucinating as well. Katniss shielded Glimmer's body from being taken away by the hovercraft and desperately tried to take the bow and arrows from her, breaking many of her mutated fingers with a stone to do so.

Glimmer appeared once again towards the end of the Hunger Games to kill the remaining tributes as a mutt. Glimmer along with Marvel, Clove, Foxface, Rue, Thresh and the other 15 unnamed Tributes, all appeared as muttations from the Capitol, which were a combination of the fallen Tribute's DNA and a wolf. Each had an attribute of the fallen Tribute which their mutations were based off of. Glimmer's wolf form had beautiful blonde fur, was lean and had shining emerald eyes, which was what tipped Katniss off that the mutations were the fallen Tributes. Katniss shot an arrow at Glimmer while she was hanging onto the Cornucopia, and sent her falling to the ground, dead. Peeta painted a picture of her as a mutt after the Hunger Games.

Catching FireEdit

In Catching Fire, Katniss and Peeta go to District 1 for their victory tour and see Glimmer's family.

Peeta takes up painting as his victor hobby, and one of the paintings he does is of Glimmer's mutt.

Throughout the story Katniss has nightmares, sometimes involving Glimmer's bloated body after the tracker jacker attack, and her mutt form.

Katniss described Glimmer to be tall, with flowing blonde hair and emerald eyes. She was described as beautiful or downright sexy. Katniss described her interview dress as gold and provocative. Katniss thought that even though Glimmer was smart, she was incompetent with a bow and arrow. However, it is very likely that Glimmer excelled in another weapon, and simply chose to use the bow and arrows at that moment because of Katniss being high up in a tree (as weapons such as swords would not help much in that matter). Katniss also thought that Glimmer was an extremely stupid name, as most names from District One tend to be a little over the top. She is described as being 5'7" tall.

Glimmer had no considerence in choosing her weapon at the Cornucopia however, we are not sure if the bow would have been her first pick of a weapon, or if she had taken any other weapon from the Cornucopia. As she was keeping guard of Katniss the night of her death, she fell victim to fatigue and passed out beside the base of the tree Katniss was trapped in. She did not have the same thought of going to the lake with the other Career tributes. This could either be because she panicked, or because she was closest to the fallen nest which caused the Tracker Jackers to focus most of their attention on her. As a Career it can be assumed she was a good fighter with something, possibly a weapon she was either unable to acquire during the Blood Bath, or simply did not use. She was smart enough to know that if she tried to climb the tree after Cato's failed attempt, the branches would break and she would end up hurting herself. Knowing Katniss would not be able to escape without them noticing, she suggested they set up camp at the base of the tree.

  • Tributes at the Cornucopia (possibly)

  • Glimmer is the only known Tribute to have specifically mentioned to be killed twice by the same person (As Katniss would have later taken credit for Glimmer's death, and she killed Glimmer as a Mutt)
  • Glimmer, Rue, Clove, Foxface, the boy from district 9 and Thresh were the only six Mutts to be specifically mentioned. All other Mutts died unnamed.

Film Portrayal Edit

On April 19, 2011, Lionsgate confirmed that Leven Rambin will be playing Glimmer in the film adaption of The Hunger Games.
