In Catching Fire, The 50th Hunger Games were watched by Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in order to prepare for the 75th Hunger Games. In the 50th Hunger Games, a Quarter Quell, twice as many Tributes were selected for the 50th Hunger Games, and the District 1 Female represented the 1 of the Female Tributes for District 1. In the Games, she was able to survive the Cornucopia Bloodbath and many of the Gamemaker's traps; the fluffy squirrels, the candy-pink birds, the stinging butterflies, and the volcano disguised as a mountain. She also made it past the Final Eight, where she encounters Haymitch Abernathy.
As usual, the Careers make an alliance, and when the weak are brought down they turn on each other. She managed to make it past the many traps set by the Gamemakers. Some which killed the District 2 Boy, and half of the Career alliance.
She made it to the final two, tracked down and fought Haymitch Abernathy, District 12's tribute, and sustained great injuries. Haymitch, however, suffered greater damages, having to hold his intestines in while fleeing. At some point during her battle with Haymitch, her eye was cut out. She chased him to a cliff and then threw her final axe, but Haymitch dodged her attack. He had lead her to the forcefield, and while she thought she just threw her axe over the cliff, Haymitch knew better. The axe ricochetted off the forcefield and lodged itself in her head. She then died, leaving Haymitch as the Victor.
